Stone Snap ("we", "our", "us") operates the Stone Snap mobile application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our app.

Information We Collect

Stone Snap collects minimal data to provide you with rock and mineral identification services:

• Camera Images: Photos you take for identification are processed by our AI model (Google Gemini) to return results. Images are sent to Google's servers for analysis and are not stored by us after processing.
• Location Data: If you grant permission, we record the GPS coordinates where specimens were found. This data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
• Usage Analytics: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data (screen views, feature usage) to improve the app. No personally identifiable information is collected.
• Local Data: Your collection, identification history, preferences, and learning progress are stored locally on your device using Room database and DataStore preferences.

Third-Party Services

Stone Snap uses the following third-party services:

• Google Gemini AI: For rock and mineral identification. Subject to Google's AI Terms of Service.
• Mindat.org API: For supplemental mineral data. Subject to Mindat's Terms of Use.
• Firebase Analytics: For anonymous usage statistics. Subject to Firebase Terms of Service.
• Google Play Billing: For subscription management. Subject to Google Play Terms of Service.

Data Storage

All user-generated content (rock collection, identification history, quiz scores, XP) is stored locally on your device. We do not operate backend servers that store your personal data. If you uninstall the app, all local data is deleted.

Children's Privacy

Stone Snap includes a Kid Mode designed for younger users. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation or login.

Subscriptions

Stone Snap Pro subscriptions are managed through Google Play. We do not collect or store payment information. Subscription management (cancellation, renewal) is handled entirely through Google Play Store settings.

Permissions

• Camera: Required for rock identification.
• Location: Optional. Used to tag where specimens were found.
• Internet: Required for AI identification and mineral data lookup.
• Billing: Required for subscription purchases through Google Play.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal information to third parties. Camera images are sent to Google Gemini solely for identification purposes and are not retained by us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
